Why Climate Action Is in My Heart
Growing up in Mathare, I witnessed firsthand how pollution suffocates not just the environment but also the dreams of those living in it. The air was thick with smoke from burning waste, the rivers carried more plastic than water, and open spaces where children should have played were turned into dumping grounds. This was my reality, a childhood shaped by environmental neglect, where clean air and green spaces felt like distant luxuries.
But even in that reality, I saw resilience. I saw mothers waking up at dawn to fetch water, young people trying to clean their communities despite the odds, and a collective hope that things could change. That hope is what fuels my passion for climate action today.
I champion climate-smart solutions because I know what it means to live without them. I advocate for sustainable waste management because I’ve seen the damage of unchecked pollution. I push for greener cities because every child deserves to grow up in an environment that nurtures their dreams, not stifles them.
